South East High School always comes up with shows to entertain students at South East High School and the community in South Gate . Either it’s the Halloween Spooktacualr, or plays such as The Wizard of Oz, or a new recent show Broadway Memories.
On Wednesday March 10, 2010 the school chorus, musical theater, band, and orchestra decided to throw another show for only $5 at 6 pm in the auditorium. Everyone collaborated together to throw a show to raise money for our special and disabled students at South East High School. The show would help them afford to go to the special Olympics.
Students who purchased a ticket but weren’t able to attend the show got extra- credit points for their class. “ I received 100 points from Ms. Mangiliman from just buying a ticket,” says Magali Caro.
Many songs were performed by the musical theater class such as: Nicest Kids In Town from movie Hairspray, Hardknock Life by famous musical Annie, Positive by Legally Blonde, Dancing Queen from movie Mama Mia, and finally the Michael Jackson Tribute.
The show overall made a little over $2,000 and was very successful. “ I think it went pretty good,” Jessica Martinez, a junior at South East High School who performed in the show.
“ The benefit show made our special and disabled kids realize that they are not different from other students at our school.” “ I’m sure they were really happy with what the show helped with,” Ms. Mangiliman, an English teacher at South East High School.
